Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins is hoping the abuse of captain John Terry will now stop and feels the booing has 'served its course'.
Terry has become a target for opposing supporters in recent weeks following allegations of an affair with the ex-girlfriend of his former team-mate Wayne Bridge.
He was stripped of the England captaincy and was jeered by a small section of fans for the national team's 3-1 win over Egypt last week.
The defender was booed again on Sunday by Stoke City supporters as Chelsea won 2-0 to reach the FA Cup semi-finals, but Wilkins has called for an end to the abuse.
"I would like to think the abuse would stop," said Wilkins. "It's served its course. But it's happening and John's just getting on with the situation.
"I'm not too happy about the abuse, but there's nothing I can do about it.
"He's dealing with the situation in the only way he can - committing himself to the cause.
"He's an exceptional captain and we're delighted to have him on board. He leads these players on the pitch in fantastic fashion and scored the second goal which was a great goal.
"This was another superb performance from him."
Terry celebrated his goal against Stoke by rolling up his sleeve before making a show of his armband and he has thanked Chelsea for their backing.
He said: "The armband means a lot. Chelsea have been very supportive, the players as well.
"It has been a good week, good to get away with England, play well and then come back here and prepare for this game."

"sorry glendvd. obviously your not a football fan and stumbled onto this website by mistake. i think your looking for cricket365 instead..... as you clearly know NOTHING about the ins and outs of football. fifa dont just sit around a table picking names out of a hat. "who shall we pick in defence" f#@k it put terry in. he was there last year. plus it will save us on re-printing. gets called fifas starting X1. which if you dont know means the best team that year. and as fifa is the governing body behind all that is the glorious game of football. im gonna go with the fact they know what to do. and as for booing. if you really want to waste money booing someone for a night. may i suggest you go see a live show of xfactor. i here booing there is welcomed. have fun wuth that one :-)"

"swindonlad - if I may respond to your post. Terry has been in the FIFA 11 for the past 3 years on name only. He is not the country's best defender, never mind the World. He has a reputation, wrongly, of being iron man Terry, stick his head in where it hurts, this does not make him a good player, it makes him a brave (stupid?) player. He is Chelsea's most succesful captain because he just so happened to be captain during the Roman Abramovich era, any player made captain would be Chelsea's most succesful captain during that era. And finally, he gets booed for England because he is, as previously posted, a despicable human being, and nobody wants him anywhere near the England team. That is why England fans boo him, because they don't want him there. The only thing that will make this World Cup now bearable, is the thought that if we do win it, at least it won't be him leading the team up and lifting the trophy. If he'd remained captain, any World Cup success would have been tainted in England fans' eyes. He is hated by most self respecting football fans. Get used to it."

"let me just start by saying what john terry did was wrong, he should not have done that,
but arent we forgetting, this site is called football365, not mothers weekly, so lets talk about football, john terry is arguably ONE of the best defenders in the world, which is backed up by another fact, john terry has been voted in the fifa starting 11 3 YEARS in a row, fact john terry is one of the most successful captains in chelsea history, so for all you muppets who want to slate him on the field, SHUT UP, YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL, if you want to slate him for his off the field antics then do so, may i sugest heat, ok, or mothers weekly magazines for that,
and one last comment, who ever boos john terry whilst wearing, or supporting england, is not a real supporter, come on, think about it, who are you helping, terry plays in a team, TEAM, YEAH NOT ON HIS OWN,so when you boo him and he has a bad game because of this, who are you helping, your boos might just get us knocked out of the world cup, CLEVER GUYS, REAL CLEVER, get used to the fact that because he is the best defender in england, he will play for england, i think capello knows what he is doing when he picks terry, "

"I just think Terry's proved yet again what a despicable man he really is. That's why people are still booing him. But hey, someone always likes him. I mean even before his latest faux pas he was made England captain when many of us thought he was a low-life and that his appointment was wrong as it sent out the wrong 'role model' message to youngsters.
But that was ignord and now 'Butch', who like many footballers isn't blessed in the brains department, thinks everyone should put it behind them. Exceptional caption? Waste of a skin in my book. Butch is a muppet."

"Terry and wilkins can't seem to wrap their head round one fairly simple idea: most people don't like John Terry. They boo him because he's a t**t. Same as Savage, Bellamy, Diouf, Bowyer, Cashley etc. "

"Does "Butch" really think fans are still booing Terry because of the whole Wayne Bridge affair? Yes, that's what's set it off, but now it's just an excuse for anyone and everyone to boo him because of the human being he is, and was, well before this whole affair came out. He's always been hated, and always will be, this just gives people an excuse to vent it on him, and long may it continue."
