Egypt striker Mohamed Zidan has described this generation of Pharaohs as the best ever after they overcame Ghana to secure a third consecutive African Nations Cup title in Luanda on Sunday.
Egypt scored a late winner through substitute Mohamed 'Gedo' Nagi to complete a 1-0 win over a young Ghanain side, stretching their unbeaten run in the African continental tournament to 19 matches.
"In the end, the whole world looks at us like champions," Zidan said after the match.
"It is very important for our careers and for us together as a team, I am very proud. It is unbelievable. We have the best Egypt team of all time.
"Now if a team wants to break our record, they will have to win it four times in a row and it's almost impossible."
The Borussia Dortmund striker cited the team's consistency as key to their success.
"We have had the same line up every game, the only changes would be because of injuries, that's very important," he said.
Egyptian assistant coach Hamada Sedki added that the length of the tournament led to the team's success at AFCON, something that might explain why the Pharaohs consistently fail to qualify for the World Cup.
"When we are in a tournament we have all the players with us," he said.
"We take care of them all the way, we can control everything, health, food, everything. The players are not just coming from their clubs for a few days."
