Tau: Backing his side

Tau rates Chiefs` chances

Jimmy Tau is confident that Kaizer Chiefs can beat Santos on Sunday, despite missing six key players.

Amakhosi take on the People's Team in a Telkom Knockout last-16 match minus Itumeleng Khune, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Reneilwe Letsholonyane, who are on national team duty. Tinashe Nengomasha and Valery Nahayo are both suspended while Thomas Sweswe completes the absentee list as he is injured.

Tau, though, feels Chiefs can come away from the Cape with a win that will book their place in the quarter-finals.

"Look, cup games are different. It is a once-off opportunity and yes we have a challenge facing us because we are missing lots of key players, but it is a responsibility of everyone attached to the club to take the opportunity granted to them to take the team forward. Winning away at Santos will require mental strength and it is a challenge we need to overcome as players," he told Football365.co.za.

"It won't be an easy match. But I think the guys are prepared for an interesting game. We are looking forward to the challenge."

The 29-year-old further tells this website that Amakhosi must use the opportunity to redeem themselves after once again failing to win the league title.

"Based on this team's standards and its legacy, finishing third on the log raises a lot of questions and that's why it is important that we do well in the Telkom Knockout," added Tau.

"There is a room for improvement in our team and I feel we can do much better than we did in the league. I know it comes with pressure, but we are always under pressure as players playing for Chiefs. This club is renowned for winning cups and that's what we need to do. We have to go out there in Cape Town and do well for the club. It is our responsibility," he concluded.
