Le Guen eyes Cameroon stay

Cameroon coach Paul Le Guen is keen to extend his contract with the nation after guiding them to World Cup qualification.

The Frenchman's tenure at the helm expired on Saturday, following the 2-0 win over Morocco which booked the Indomitable Lions' place in South Africa next year.

However, after the encounter, Le Guen revealed he will be more than willing to re-negotiate the short-term deal. "I will meet the federation officials next weekend but I would like to continue and if this is also the sentiment of the Cameroon football leaders, then I will. It is very likely," he said.

The previous coach Otto Pfister was fired in May after a string of disappointing results. Since Le Guen's appointment in the hotseat, he has fought for first-class flights and proper hotels for the squad. He has also ensured an improvement in Cameroon's training facilities and medical staff.

Le Guen believes the better conditions was key to the side winning four successive qualifiers to record the African record of six consecutive World Cup appearances.

"The key has been the talent of the players. We didn't undergo a dramatic change of personnel but I wanted to change the team dynamic. I wanted them to want to come and play for the national team and I sought to give them the best conditions possible," Le Guen concluded.
